The VS1501 is a stand-alone vision processor designed to be a general purpose, high performance, image processor. Two independent IEEE-1394 (Firewire) camera ports, ethernet port, composite video output and low power consumption provide flexible features to develop a wide range of vision applications.

More Details:

The VS1501 simplifies vision capturing and processing by utilizes a dedicated DSP processor connected directly to the Firewire video ports. Data can then be communicated to other systems using a built in, separate and integrated Ethernet interface.

  • TI DSP operating at 600MHz (4800 MIPS)
  • 32M bytes high speed SDRAM memory
  • 4M bytes nonvolatile FLASH memory
  • 2 independent IEE-1394 ports (Firewire)
  • Less than 6.5 watts total power consumption
  • Two digital outputs and two digital inputs per IEEE-1394 port
  • 10/100 Ethernet port
  • Independent over-current protection on IEEE-1394 ports
  • Independent on/off control of IEEE-1394 port power
  • NTSC/PAL composite video output
  • 6.0 x 5.0 x 2.0 inches

The VS1501 has a library of C-callable driver routines-basic configuration and test software installed. Development of the application software is undertaken by the customer with the support of Valde Systems software-development engineers. The system will support the free TI library of imaging functions as well as the open source computer vision library. Developers can use Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio integrated development environment to develop their own applications. Other possible development options include Matlab, and Linux. Although this approach could increase the development time, the developer will not have to pay operating system or software licenses, making the time spent worthwhile.

Development software for the VS1501 can be purchased through TI website. University and educational discounts provide a substantial break on the IDE price.

Additional Hardware:

Each VS1501 unit comes with a 9 pin DSUB cable and a removable terminal block. The 9 pin DSUB is uses to interface to the serial port of the module.
