Part Number:R117-COMPASS
Price:$59.00
Weight:0.03 lbs

This great little compass was designed by Robot Electronics specifically for use in robots to aid navigation. The compass uses the Philips KMZ51 magnetic field sensor, which is sensitive enough to detect the Earth's magentic field. Two of them mounted at right angles to each other can be used to compute the direction of the horizontal component of the Earth's magnetic field.

Specifications subject to change without notice

Note:

The compass must be mounted horizontally and changing the tilt of the compass will effect the readings.

Calibration Notice:

The PWM signal is around 2 percent longer on the Revision 14 and 15 CMPS03's (These are the one's with the PIC18F2321 chip). Immediate workarounds are to use I2C mode, which is unaffected, or to reduce the measured PWM period by 2 percent. Documentation on how to calibrate the sensor can be found at the Devantech CMPS03 product page. Revision 16 is expected to correct this issue.

Additional Information:

Additional application notes, schematics, and tech support can be found at Robot Electronics.
