The Create, by iRobot

The iRobot Create Programmable Robot (pictured below) is a durable, reliable, fully assembled and programmable robot with out-of-the-box operation.  The Create comes in three basic packages, which include the Create robot itself and a number of accessories.  Additional accessories, add-ons, and replacement parts are available separately. 

The section below lists the basic kits, the accessories we offer, and how to interface each.  Finally, the basic kits are compared and explained in detail.

Overview

The I1 Create

The I1 Create

This is the most basic package and includes the robot, a battery pack, and a serial cable to link with a host computer.  This package comes fully assembled and is ready to program out of the box.  It comes with 32 built-in sensors, as well as 10 demo programs. 

The I2 Create and Command

This kit combines everything in the I1 with a Create Command Module.  The Command Module is an 8-bit, 18MHz microcontroller enabling full programmability of iRobot Create's motors, lights, sounds and sensor readings.  The module plugs into the robot's cargo bay connector for on-board control via programs written in C.  It has four DB9 expansion ports for adding your own hardware. 

The I4 Premium Development Package

This kit includes everything in the I2, plus a battery charger system for a package that can operate for hours.  It also includes two virtual walls to help control the Create and assist in algorithm development, an infrared remote, and a self-charging home base.  The self-charging home base puts out continuous IR beacons which an omni-directional IR receiver on the Create locates.  The Create can guide itself home, where it will automatically recharge its batteries.
