Mission

Acroname's mission is to provide expertise, applications and high quality products in robotics. We aim not to just make money, but to advance our field with applications that benefit people.

Criteria

We have a simple criteria that overrides our choices and business practices. For us to pursue something we ask:

  • Is there a clear business case?
  • Does it play well with others?
  • Does it raise the bar and advance robotics?
  • Does the outcome help people and our environment?

We turn away from things that force a particular platform or "religion", weapons, means of invading privacy, and things that specifically exclude communities whether they be MacOS, Java, or women in engineering fields.

Background

Acroname was founded in 1994 and has relentlessly pursued our mission for over 12 years; reaching over 20,000 customers worldwide. We have experience working with groups as large as Intel, Microsoft and the US Government and as small as individual designers and engineers working on product development.

Our long track record of customer service and performance along with a healthy skepticism of the "robotics breakout movement" help us ground our practices in sound business.

We could build a daunting array of Acronyms and systems we have learned, absorbed, and use daily, though most of our skills are based in product driven practicality. We pride ourselves in being ahead of the curve with respect to running a successful robotics business.

People

We come from backgrounds as varied as the range of absolutely required skills for developing robots and running a business. We have degrees in Fine Arts, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Mechanical and Systems Engineering.

Our team speaks three languages and has climbed 12a, run a 2:20 marathon, studied yoga in India with masters, competed in the Olympic trials, travelled the country by bicycle, toured nationally in bands, built and rebuilt homes, and most importantly, established a world-reaching robotics technology company during the technology crash of the late 1990's. We don't give up very easily.

Environment

We care both about the global environment and our own working environment. The majority of our company commutes daily on bikes, we have (and use) company wide regional bus passes, and we work in a very egalitarian workplace with very little management or oversight. Essentially, we have a very directed group of individual performers who communicate well. We also make every effort to conform to environmental standards and recycle extensively, despite our work in high-technology.
