IR Tab

The IR tab provides an interface for testing Garcia's IR communication capabilities.

The IR tab as it appears in Windows

Did you purchase an IR remote control for your Garcia?  Or do you have a remote-controlled TV or other device that uses the NEC IR protocol?  If so, point the remote control at the robot's head and push a few buttons.  You should see hexadecimal values appear in the log window.  When the IR pane is selected, the robot is always polling for incoming IR transmissions.

NOTE:Garcia only responds to non-zero values.  One of the buttons on the Garcia remote sends a value of 0 so it won't cause a value to be displayed.

The "TX Data" Text Box

Your robot can transmit 16-bit values through the IR transmitter on its head.  This box provides an area for you to enter data that will be queued for transmission.  The data must be entered as hexadecimal values.

The "Queue Data" Button

When you press this button, the value in the "TX Data" text box will be added to a transmit queue for later transmission.  You can queue up to 10 values.

The "Init Test" Button

When you press this button, the transmit queue will be cleared and a default set of values will be added to the queue for later transmission.

The "Send Queue" Button

When you press this button, the robot will transmit all the values in its queue with a 0.25 second interval between each value.  If you have a TV that uses the NEC IR protocol, you can try making your Garcia change the channel.  Grab a code you see in the log window, queue it for transmission, then see what happens when you send it.
