Introduction

The GP Application is useful for learning more about the GP 1.0 and GP 2.0 BrainStem® Modules.  The GP Application is also useful as a utility once you understand the module: it can be used to adjust settings, view inputs, and affect outputs without having to write code or type packets into the Console Application.

The GP application will automatically detect the type of controller (GP 1.0 or GP 2.0) connected through the serial port.  If no controller is detected, the application will display a message to this effect.

Configuration File

The GP Application defaults to settings that work for most people's computer configurations.  If needed, you can plant a file in the aBinary directory under the main brainstem distribution (the same folder as the GP application file itself) to change these settings.  This can be done using a simple text editor (TeachText, Notepad, or the Memo Pad).  The basic file format is lines of "setting = value".  Below are the default settings and setting names for the GP application:

This file should be saved into the aBinary folder with the name "GP.config" (minus the quotes).  Capitalization matters for both the file name and the contents of the file.  Defaults are identical for both the GP 1.0 and GP 2.0 modules when used with the GP Application.

The module setting may be changed in order to address a GP board whose address has been changed or to address a GP board in a network of other Stems.

An example file that changes the port to the modem serial port and the baud rate to 4800 for the MacOS would look like:
